“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Luke 21:19

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

Jesus said,

“Stand firm, and you will win life.”

.

– Luke 21:19 (NRSV)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

Stand firm in your faith,

endure and withstand with determination…and you will win life – eternal life.

.

Life’s challenges are part of God’s providence:

they happen because He lets them happen,

which He does in order to draw greater good out of them.

.

Suffering because of our faith; because of difficult circumstances,

is a wonderful opportunity to bear witness to Christ,

and He promises us divine help as we strive to adhere to His teachings.

.

He tells us not to be afraid,

because even apparent misfortune and loss will be for us a beginning of Heaven.

.

As Christians,

we should be people of faith, hope and joy!

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

Lord, with You in my heart I shall overcome…and live forever!

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Sirach 2:1-6

TODAY’S WORD…

.

My child, if you are going to serve the Lord,

be prepared for times when you will be put to the test.

Be sincere and determined.

Keep calm when trouble comes.

.

Stay with the Lord;

never abandon Him,

and you will be prosperous at the end of your days.

.

Accept whatever happens to you.

Even if you suffer humiliation, be patient.

.

Gold is tested by fire,

and human character is tested in the furnace of humiliation.

.

Trust the Lord, and He will help you.

Walk straight in His ways,

and put your Hope in Him.

.

–    Sirach 2:1-6   (GNT)

.

.

.

QUOTES…

.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.”

.

–    James 1:2

.

.

“It is good when a Christian gets into a lot of hot water … it keeps him clean!”

.

–    G. K. Chesterton

.

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Psalm 24:3-5

TODAY’S WORD…

.

Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place? . .

Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. They will receive the Lord’s blessing and have a right relationship with God their saviour.

.

–    Psalm 24:3-5   (NLT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

What is required to enable us enter into worshipful communion with the Lord?

What will prepare us for heaven?

Who is worthy to stand before God?

.

Above all, we must be upright in external conduct

and our heart must also be pure.

“Hands” and “hearts” refer to both our action and intentions

– the whole of our being should reflect purity of motive and of thought.

.

Another requisite concerns lies.

We are not to worship idols or have false gods, which are “lies”.

We ourselves must, of course, be sincere,

we must love the truth and not indulge in deceitfulness.

.

We must never forget

that God sees inside our hearts and minds!

.

.

.

PRAYER…

.

Look inside my heart, O Lord,

and there You will see all that I am and do,

all that I’ve been and done,

all that I desire to be and to do.

.

Lord, wash me clean,

and renew my heart, my mind, my body, my soul.

.

My entire being yearns for You,

to be with You,

to be like You,

to be one with You.

.

Lord, You are welcome in my heart!

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

Lord, make me more like You!

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – John 18:37

..

TODAY’S WORD…

.

Jesus said,

“I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth.

All who love the truth recognise that what I say is true.”

.

–    John 18:37   (NLT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

Jesus became one like us

because He had a divine message for us

on how we are to live our lives.

He also had a task to carry out,

which would open the doors of salvation for us

.

Many are living their lives contrary to Jesus’ message,

as they allow themselves to be influenced by the world.

Often, they don’t really know what Jesus said,

and this is because they never heard or read the Gospels.

.

Worse, however, is the attitude of those who have heard and read Jesus’ word

but, because they want to carry on living their own selfish lives,

close their minds to the truth

or give it their own interpretation.

.

True Christians

are those who have searched for the truth;

who have found it in Jesus;

who acknowledge Him as God, as Divine King

and who constantly strive to live His truth

because they believe in life everlasting,

which they so dearly want to spend in God’s presence.

.

.

.

PRAYER…

.

My Lord, my God, my King,

thank You for all that You have done

for me to know the truth

and to be saved.

.

Lord, my heart and my mind know the truth when they hear it,

and my soul exalts in Your truth,

which draws me closer to You, my Maker and my Saviour.

.

Thank You for loving me to the extreme, O God;

thank You for Your ultimate sacrifice, O Lord;

thank You for Your triumph over death, O Saviour;

thank You for Your truth, O King.

.

Amen.

.

.

.

SHORT PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

My Lord, my God, my King, I exalt in Your truth and in Your love!

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Luke 20:38

TODAY’S WORD…

.

Jesus said,

“He’s not the God of the dead but of the living.

In God’s sight all people are living.”

.

–    Luke 20:38   (GW)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

Jesus is asserting the truth of the resurrection of the dead.

There is no God of the dead

and all who have the Almighty as their God and are found worthy,

shall live on to enjoy Him…forever.

.

.

.

SHORT PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

My Lord, my God, I believe with all my heart, I want to love You with all my heart, I wish to be with You…forever!

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Psalm 119:111,131

..

TODAY’S WORD…

..

Your laws are my treasure;
they are my heart’s delight.

.

I pant with expectation,
longing for Your commands.

.

– Psalm 119:111,131 (NLT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

..

God’s laws are a treasure for the true believer,

they are a divine heritage forever;

a glorious and rich inheritance;

they become the most valued property,

that which has real and permanent value.

.

The believer rejoices

and there is great happiness in the heart

which finds constant comfort in God’s commands.

.

The heart is full

with an intense desire for God,

and full of deep emotion.

It does not want to stop

earnestly longing to remain in His presence

and to carry on being led by Him.

.

.

.

QUOTE…

..

“As the deer longs for streams of water,

so my soul longs for You, O God.”

.

Psalm 42:1

.

.

.

PRAYER…

..

As a deer longs for flowing streams,

so my soul longs for You, O God,

for You are the Living God.
.

My heart longs for You, my God,

for You are my Maker

and Your Word and Your Commands are my treasure

– they are the Truth

that I embrace with great joy!..

.

My heart,

my soul,

my all

yearns for You, O God.

.

I love You.

.

.

.

SHORT PRAYER…

..

O God, my soul longs for You. You are my treasure and my great joy!

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Luke 19:41-42,44

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

Jesus came closer to the city,

and when He saw it, He wept over it, saying,

“If you only knew today what is needed for peace!

But now you cannot see it!

.

…you did not recognise the time

when God came to save you!”

.

– Luke 19:41-42,44 (GNT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

How sad Jesus feels

when He sees city after city,

country after country,

– even though they should know better –

putting the Truth aside

because of a hardening of hearts

and mounting selfishness and pride.

.

God sees us refusing to carry on loving Him

and failing to love one another as He loves us,

…and He weeps,

because He knows that we are destroying ourselves in the process.

.

.

.

QUOTE…

.

“When God is forgotten

…the creature itself grows unintelligible.”

.

“Gaudium et Spes”

.

.

.

SHORT PRAYER…

.

Jesus, You are my Lord, You are my Saviour.

Without You, I have no real peace!

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Revelation 4:8

.

TODAY’S WORD…

..

"Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty,

who was and is and is to come!"

.

– Revelation 4:8 (NIV)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

We should make these strong words of praise our own,

directed at God the Creator,

to whom victory is due

and to whom all power belongs.

.

God does not change – He is eternal!

.

We proclaim Him “Holy”, three times Holy,

on account of His majesty;

His justice;

and His mercy.

.

We sing praises to The Lord God Almighty,

forever majestic, just and merciful;

the Great I AM;

who WAS, who IS, and who IS TO COME.

.

God is great,

He does not change,

He is eternal!

.

Amen!

.

.

.

SHORT PRAYER…

.

Lord, You are the same, yesterday, today, and forever.

You are Holy!

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Revelation 3:15-16,19

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot.

I wish you were either one or the other!

.

So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold –

I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

.

But those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.

So be earnest and repent.”

.

– Revelation 3:15-16,19 (NIV)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

What am I?

Am I cold, hot, or lukewarm in my faith?

.

Do I love God with ALL my heart,

or do I only give Him what I assume to be a fair share?

.

Do I love God with ALL my soul,

or do I sometimes let it wander off to satisfy my desires?

.

Do I love God with ALL my strength,

or do I tend to love Him mostly when I’m tired, feeling weak and in need?

.

Those who choose the middle road of faith,

do so because they think that they can compromise with God

while accommodating their own selfish comforts.

.

Those who loudly label those Christians who strive hard to do God’s will as “religious extremists”

while proudly declaring their own “open-mindedness”

often do so, to justify their spiritual easygoingness.

.

Christ strongly condemns lukewarmness,

and the question therefore beckons – am I lukewarm in my faith?

.

.

.

QUOTE…

.

"Christians cannot afford to be lukewarm in their faith

[which instead] must burn within us like a flame of love;

a flame that lights our entire being,

to become the great passion of our existence,

igniting those around us."

.

– Pope Benedict XVI

.

.

.

SHORT PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

Lord, I want to be fully committed to You; to stand firm for You;

to be passionate about You; to love You with all my heart, my soul and my strength!

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Revelation 2:4

..

TODAY’S WORD…

.

“This is what I have against you:

you do not love me now as you did at first.”

.

– Revelation 2:4 (GNT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

Christ’s words are directed at those of us

who although still faithful to God

are no longer full of fervour as in the past.

Such lack of zeal projects an apparent lack of joy

and, therefore, less fruitful witnessing.

.

Yes, the love for God and neighbour may still be there

but, in some of us, it appears that it may have stopped growing.

.

The more we look at God,

the more we get to know Him and learn of His great and unending love for us,

the stronger the fire that should fill our heart with love for Him!

.

Have we allowed our love for God

to become like that person who was once bright and cheerful

but has now become sad, heavy and sullen?

.

Is our early love for the Lord appearing to grow cold?

.

To avoid this danger, to which all of us are prone,

we need to be watchful and correct ourselves every day,

and return again and again to God our Father.

.

Love of God, love of neighbour,

should never be allowed to die down;

it should always be kept ardent;

it should always be growing.

.

.

.

PRAYER…

.

O God, You are so worthy of all love and praise,

of honour and glory!

.

Lord, help me remain ardent in my love for You.

Help me constantly aspire to the perfection of holy love,

so that my love for You may be perfect.

.

My God, I want my love for You to never stop growing,

I want to love You, always,

with all my heart, my mind, my soul, and my strength

– unwaveringly,

and increasingly so!

.

Amen.

.

.

.

SHORT PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

My God, I want to love You, always,

with all my heart, my mind, my soul, and my strength!
