“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Isaiah 30:18

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you;

therefore He will rise up to show mercy to you.

For the Lord is a God of justice;

blessed are all those who wait for Him.

REFLECTION…

.

In a few simple words this verse manages to catch God’s attitude towards us,

and inspires us on how to respond to His graciousness.

.

God is waiting, hoping to forgive us;

this waiting St Paul calls “divine forbearance” (Rom 3:26);

but the time will come when He will show mercy.

.

God acts as He does because He is the God of justice, that is, the God who saves.

Really, God is only waiting for us to turn to Him, and He will forgive us.

.

If we realise this,

if we are convinced of this,

then we have every reason to persevere in hope.

.

God’s patience elicits from our hope in Him.

.

.

.

PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

Lord God, how can I ever thank You for your love and mercy and for sending Your Son to save me.

Forgive me and cleanse me by Your grace and renew me by your Spirit.

Amen.
