“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – John 14:6

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

Jesus said,

“I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life.

No one comes to the Father except through me.”

.

– John 14:6 (NRSV)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

For those who know Jesus,

for those who have a personal relationship with Him,

these words sum it all up.

.

These words of Christ,

these deep and meaningful words,

should be, for the believer,

a gloriously reassuring statement.

.

If I read these words

and they do not stir my soul

with love and yearning for Jesus,

then I should ask myself

if it is time

for me to examine my life;

to see if I have lost my way;

to see whether I am closing my mind to the truth

…and why!

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

My Lord Jesus Christ,
You are the Way, the Truth and the Life for all creation;
grant me the grace to walk in Your way,
to rejoice in Your truth,
and to share Your risen life.
Amen.

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – 1 John 5:14-15

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

We are quite confident that

if we ask the Son of God for anything,

and it is in accordance with His will,

He will hear us;

and, knowing that whatever we may ask, He hears us,

we know that we have already been granted what we asked of Him.

.

– 1 John 5:14-15 (JB)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

God always listens to us, if we ask "in accordance with His will"

St Bede explains that God listens

"insofar as we ask for the things He desires,

and insofar as those of us who approach Him are as He desires us to be"

.

When we ask,

we therefore need to be striving to live in accordance with God’s will,

and to be identifying ourselves in advance with God’s plans.

If we do not try to live in accordance with God’s commandments,

we cannot expect Him to listen to our prayers.

.

.

.

QUOTE…

.

"It is not surprising, then,

that the devil should do everything possible to influence us

to give up prayer or to pray badly […]

How many sinners would get out of sin

if they managed to have recourse to prayer!" "

.

– Cure of Ars.

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

Lord God, I need You.

Your will be done!

Thank You, Lord.

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Psalm 34:18-19

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

The Lord is close to the broken-hearted;
He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

The righteous person faces many troubles,
but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.

.

– Psalm 34:18-19 (NLT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

You who are going through a terrible period in your life,

suffering greatly and filled with sorrow,

have faith

and do not be afraid

for the Lord, Your God, is close to you.

.

Your faith will help you accept and carry the cross you are bearing,

and the Holy Spirit will fill you with hope, strength and determination,

and that singular inner joy – that infallible sign of God’s presence in one’s life!

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

Lord, help me to live in Your joy and peace.

Give me strength and acceptance.

Rescue me when ‘my spirit is overwhelmed within me;

when my heart within me is distressed.’ [Ps 143:4]

Take over, Lord.

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Psalm 34:8

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him!

.

– Psalm 34:8 (NLT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

Since our Lord is the true bread from heaven – the Bread of Life –

it is natural that our soul should find pleasure and enjoyment in Him

through a spiritual taste.

.

Much in the same way that the taste of honey simply cannot be describe by mere words,

so it is with the Lord,

whose divine goodness can only be truly experienced by those who readily approach Him

with a humble desire to get to know Him intimately

and a yearning to experience and enjoy His loving protection.

.

Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him!.

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

Oh, the great joy of knowing You, Lord!

Oh, the great joy of knowing how much You love and care for me – thank You Jesus!

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Isaiah 38:19-20

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

It is the living who praise You,
as I praise You now.
Parents tell their children how faithful You are.
.

Lord, You have healed me.
We will play harps and sing Your praise,
Sing praise in Your Temple as long as we live.

.

– Isaiah 38:19-20 (GNT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

It is when we find the Lord our God

and really let Him into our heart

and ask Him to heal us and change us and use us,

that we suddenly come truly alive!

.

Apart from wanting to love and praise and thank Him,

we also get this great desire to share Him with others,

including – especially – our own children.

.

But do I share Jesus’ with others?

Have I really let Jesus into my heart?

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

Jesus, You are welcome in my heart.

Jesus – my Lord, my God, my Healer and my Saviour –

I shall sing Your praises and gladly share You for evermore!

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Philippians 2:5-8

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

.

Though He was God,
He did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
Instead, He gave up His divine privileges;
He took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
.

When He appeared in human form,
He humbled Himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

.

– Philippians 2:5-8 (NLT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

Jesus Christ gives us a wonderful example –

He chose the way of humility, acceptance,

and obedience to the Father

and so must we.

.

By reflecting on Jesus’ example,

we shall come to see all personal sacrifice and suffering

which may result from obeying the Lord’s Law

and from doing His will,

as a privilege – as a sign of salvation.

.

As St. Paul tells us:

we “have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ

but also the privilege of suffering for Him.” (Phil 1:29)

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

O Lord, my God,

fill me with Your Spirit, that I may always gladly do Your will…come what may!

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – John 20:29

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

Jesus said [to Thomas],

“You believe because you have seen me.

Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”

.

– John 20:29 (NLT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

“Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”

Undoubtedly, Jesus means us

– we who confess with our soul Him whom we have not seen in the flesh.

.

Yes, Jesus means us,

provided we live in accordance with the faith

– because it is only if we practice what we claim to believe,

that we truly believe.

.

And when we truly believe, we shall know it

– from the inexpressible hope and joy in our heart.

.

As St. Peter tells us,

“You love Him even though you have never seen Him.

Though you do not see Him now, you trust Him;

and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.” (1 Pt 1:8)

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

My Lord and my God!

You know that I do believe,

but please, Lord, increase my faith

and make me steadfast in my love for You.

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Romans 14:7-9

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

“We do not live for ourselves only,

and we do not die for ourselves only.

If we live, it is for the Lord that we live,

and if we die, it is for the Lord that we die.

.

So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

For Christ died and rose to life

in order to be the Lord of the living and of the dead.”

.

– Romans 14:7-9 (GNT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

Christ’s death is the price He paid for mankind, for me

– it is my ransom

which sets me free from the slavery of sin, death and the devil.

.

As a result of it I belong no longer to myself but to Christ.

The new life – in grace and freedom – which He has won for me,

I must live for His sake.

.

We do not own ourselves,

we are not our own masters.

God has created us,

and Jesus Christ has freed us from sin by redeeming us with His Blood.

.

Therefore, Jesus is our Lord,

and we should be committed to Him body and soul.

.

Do I acknowledge Jesus’ Divine Lordship,

through the way that I live; my words; my thoughts: my deeds?

.

Am I committed to Jesus, body and soul?

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

Lord Jesus, I belong to You

and I want to live for You.

Through Your Holy Spirit, help me…guide me…strengthen my faith…

that I may truly love You

and fittingly respond to Your love.

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Galatians 3:27-28

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

All of you who were baptised into Christ

have clothed yourselves with Christ.

.

There is neither Jew nor Gentile,

neither slave nor free,

nor is there male and female,

for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

.

– Galatians 3:27-28 (NIV)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

There is such an intimate union

between the baptised person and Christ,

a union so intense

that the Christian can be said to be "another Christ".

.

There is no real difference, nor should there be, between one person and another,

no difference even between man and woman:

both are made in the image and likeness of God.

.

For the faithful Christian, therefore, there is only one language

– the language which speaks to the heart and to the mind, without the noise of words,

making us know the Lord,

encouraging us to be more like Him,

as we demonstrate our love for Him and for one another

by obeying His commandments and doing His will,

.

.

.

QUOTE…

.

"The Holy Spirit

was not content with saying that we are bathed and anointed:

here he says that we are clothed,

and the clothing we are given is not just something beautiful and costly:

it is Jesus Christ Himself,

who is the sum total of all beauty, all value, all richness, etc.

.

What he means is that the beauty of Jesus Christ,

His justice, His grace, His riches, His splendour,

shine out from us with the splendour of the sun

and is reflected as in the purest of mirrors"

.

– St. John of Avila

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

I am not worthy, Lord.

Create in me a clean heart and help me be more like You.

“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – Titus 3:4-7

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour was revealed,

He saved us.

.

It was not because of any good deeds that we ourselves had done,

but because of His own mercy that He saved us,

through the Holy Spirit, who gives us new birth and new life by washing us

.

God poured out the Holy Spirit abundantly on us

through Jesus Christ our Saviour,

so that by His grace we might be put right with God

and come into possession of the eternal life we hope for.

.

– Titus 3:4-7 (GNT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

These verses are a magnificent resume of our faith,

of our belief and trust in Christ.

.

Every Christian should bear witness to salvation history,

to the change from sin to grace,

and the change from an era of slavery and error

to the era of freedom and rebirth ushered in by Christ.

.

Our Heavenly Father and Creator makes known His kindness and love

through the incarnation of Jesus Christ, His beloved Son, our Saviour

– we have been redeemed solely by virtue of His own mercy.

.

The door to salvation is Baptism,

for it is the sacrament of regeneration and renewal.

The Holy Spirit, sent by Christ, makes the waters of Baptism effective;

His grace gives life to the soul and entitles it to eternal life.

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

All glory be the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

world without end. Amen!
