REFLECTION…

.

Nothing, absolutely nothing is too difficult for our God.

That is why we must never give up on ourselves,

on our situation,

on changing our ways,

on moving forward in the direction we know that He points us to

…in spite of ourselves,

in spite of others,

in spite of all difficulties and hardships we may encounter along the way.

.

Nothing is too difficult for God

…and when I go humbly to Him in faith and trust,

He will stretch His arm out for me to cling on to

and, with Him by my side,

nothing will be too difficult for me.

.

HAVE FAITH AND SING TO THE LORD…WITH JOY…

.

…which comes from knowing that nothing is too difficult for Him.

REFLECTION…

.

Jesus Himself tells us to “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Mat 28:19),

and, in order to make known among the nations what He has done,

we do not even have to step out of our own country

which has become a “melting pot” for so many nationalities!

.

There are, of course, the locals;

there are those who come from other countries to work and live here;

many who are just passing through;

and large numbers who come as tourists

and who take the memories of their visit (good and bad) back with them to their country.

.

What an opportunity God has blessed us with

to share the Good News with these people of all nationalities, colour and creed!

.

The very least we have to do

is to act as true Christians towards them

and show a loving and caring attitude,

reflect and share our inner joy with them,

and gladly give them our peace.

.

Yes, we are all called to be missionaries in our own country.

.

In farm work, the harvest is lost if the farmer does not reap at the right time.

Christ’s urgent call to harvest has applied throughout the centuries.

There has always been a need to be out harvesting

because there has always been a big harvest ready to be won.

.

Even today, as in the time of Jesus, there is a shortage of labourers.

How am I responding to Christ’s call to harvest?

we get to know Him better

That is how we get to realise

that there is none like Him,

that He is Wisdom and Truth,

and that He alone has the words of eternal life.

REFLECTION…

.

Think of those who you know are trapped in despair, self-pity and depression.

Bring them to Jesus.

.

Think of those who carry anger in their heart

or, maybe, thoughts of revenge.

Also those who are addicted to drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex, money…

Bring them to Jesus.

.

Rather than gossip about and bad-mouth these people,

which is so un-Christian, cruel and hypocritical,

let us lovingly speak to Jesus about them;

bring them to Him in prayer;

and entrust them into His caring, healing hands,

that He may set them free from their chains.

.

Jesus came to set the captives free (Cf. Lk 4:16-21),

to bring us freedom,

and we all need Jesus to unbind us and set us free

from whatever may be mastering us.

.

Let us go to Jesus in faith

– He loves, forgives, and heals.

REFLECTION…

Reflect on this:

Jesus looks at you, intently and lovingly,

and calls out “Follow me.”

.

The full verse, from which this call is taken, reads as follows:

As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth;

and He said to him, “Follow me.”

And he got up and followed Him.

.

Matthew did.

Have I?

.

Matthew’s promptitude in "following" Jesus’ call is to be noted.

When God speaks,

the soul may be tempted to reply, "Tomorrow; I’m not ready yet."

In the last analysis this excuse, and other excuses,

are nothing but a sign of selfishness and fear.

"Tomorrow" runs the risk of being too late.

.

Following Christ, means we should make ourselves totally available to Him;

whatever sacrifice He asks of us we should make.

The call to follow Christ means

staying up with Him,

and not falling behind.

We either follow Him, learn from Him and serve Him,

or we lose Him.

REFLECTION…

.

God cannot be deceived;

He sees right into our heart – our conscience –

and He will judge each one of us on our own individual merits.

.

Our conscience can be very deceitful

– it can call evil good, and good evil;

it can claim to be peaceful, when it is desperate;

it can deceptively justify sinfulness and immorality.

.

It is a very bad case indeed, when the conscience,

which should be what points out and sets right the errors of our other faculties,

is in fact the leader of the delusion.

.

We can never know our own heart well enough,

nor where it can lead us to in a moment of temptation.

That is why we must relentlessly call upon the Lord

to help us control and constrain our self-centeredness,

our wishes, our thoughts and our intentions.

.

We must put a stop to manipulating our own conscience

and getting it to whisper only what appeases and satisfies our cravings,

rather than what censures and corrects us.

Only God can help us overcome ourselves.

.
