TODAY’S WORD…

God showed how much He loved us

by sending His one and only Son into the world

so that we might have eternal life through Him.

This is real love – not that we loved God,

but that He loved us

and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

Dear friends, since God loved us that much,

we surely ought to love each other.

REFLECTION…

.

What is amazing, St Alphonsus teaches,

"is that He could have saved us without suffering or dying

and yet He chose a life of toil and humiliation,

and a bitter and ignominious death,

even death on a cross, something reserved for the very worst offenders.

And why was it that when he could have redeemed us without suffering,

he chose to embrace death on the Cross?

To show us how much he loved us".

He also was showing us how we should love Him

and how we should love one another.

.

Am I prepared to follow my Lord’s example

and put aside my pride, my self-centeredness and my hard-headedness,

and love like He loves?

Come, Holy Spirit,

strengthen my faith and fill me with Your love

– I want to love like Jesus loves.
