TODAY’S WORD…
.
‘Be appalled at this, you heavens,
and shudder with great horror,’
declares the Lord.
‘My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me, the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns
– broken cisterns that cannot hold water.’
.
– Jeremiah 2:12-13 (NIV)

.
REFLECTION…
.
The world seems to be turning its back on God
as it stares into the mirror of deception
and relishes in worshipping itself.
.
The image of the broken cistern that cannot hold water
reflects our condition
when, instead of trusting in the Lord,
we start to rely on ourselves
or on earthly things.
.
Instead of drinking from the abundant water of life,
which the Lord has so generously and lovingly provided,
we indulge in the stagnant water
which lies at the bottom of the broken cisterns which we make for ourselves.

QUOTE…
.
“…their appetite grows and their thirst increases
the further they find themselves
from the only source that can satisfy them, who is God.
.
God Himself said to them through Jeremiah His prophet:
They have forsaken me, the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns
– broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”
.
What they drink in created things cannot satisfy their thirst,
but only increases it.
they sin in a thousand ways through their love for created things,
and do themselves incalculable harm.”
.
– St. John of the Cross

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…
.
Lord, save me from my selfishness, and from deceiving myself.
You are the Fountain of Living Water,
and only You can satisfy my thirst.
You are my God!
