“a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – 1 John 4:20-21

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

If we say we love God, but hate others, we are liars.

For we cannot love God, whom we have not seen,

if we do not love others, whom we have seen.

.

The command that Christ has given us is this:

whoever loves God must love others also.

.

– 1 John 4:20-21 (GNT)

.

.

.

REFLECTION…

.

"We are liars": this is a very harsh statement.

Being liars means being on the devil’s side

– for this is what Jesus tells us:

.

“When he [the devil] tells a lie,

he is only doing what is natural to him,

because he is a liar and the father of all lies.” (Jn 8:44)

.

Loving God means keeping all the commandments,

and the principal commandment is that of selfless love;

therefore, it is not possible to truly love God without loving others.

QUOTE…

.

"Seeing your brother is seeing God"

.

– Clement of Alexandria

.

PRAYER…

.

Lord Jesus,

I want to truly love You,

so I give You my heart

and ask You to take it over

and mould it in Your truth

and make it more like Yours,

that I may become more like You

and love like You love.

.

Help me see You in all others

and help me love them all with a pure heart,

so that I can truly proclaim my love for You.

.

For this I intensely pray. Amen.

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

Lord, help me always see You in others.

  1. I do believe all of the ideas you’ve presented on your post.

They’re very convincing and can definitely work.
Nonetheless, the posts are too short for newbies. May
just you please extend them a little from next time?

    Thanks for the post.

    • Very encouraging to note the word “convincing”. I am a firm believer that whatever is written in the Gospels…and in the New Testament as a whole…can definitely work – as long as one is open to the Spirit.
About the shortness of the posts…yes, sometimes I am tempted to enthusiastically go on and on, but “a Lamp to my feet” has been around for over three years now (not as a blog, but originally in the form of an e-mail) and my experience, from comments received, is that people these days want bite-sized everything. Anything beyond 300 words in all seems to quickly lose most people’s interests. In any case, those who “dare” to read and are somehow touched by what they read and wish to go deeper, have the entire internet at their disposal. I must admit that I myself was personally touched enough to decide to change my life and follow Christ after reading just one verse – Galatians 5 verse 22 (and 23, to be exact). I always pray that, somehow, my posts can touch “newbies” in the same way.
I must also add that the posts are very much part of and the result of my daily quiet time. If the Lord prompts me to write something longer…then I do so. Incidentally, the posts actually averaged some 400 words in all in the recent past. The last few weeks, I have felt “guided” to reduce, and the average post must be down to 200/250 words (including the verse from Scripture).
Thank you for commenting, however, and I will certainly keep your comment in my mind as I pray to write not what my mind tells me to, but what I feel prompted (by the Spirit) to express. God bless you.

      Galatian
