10 August 2013 – “a Lamp to my feet. a Light for my path.” – John 12:25-26

.

TODAY’S WORD…

.

Jesus said,

“Those who love their life lose it,

and those who hate their life in this world

will keep it for eternal life.

.

Whoever serves me must follow me,

and where I am, there will my servant be also.

Whoever serves me, the Father will honour.”

.

– John 12:25-26 (NRSV)

REFLECTION…

.

A true Christian,

should see every type of suffering and contradiction

as a sharing in Christ’s cross,

which redeems us and exalts us.

.

To be supernaturally effective,

we have to die to ourselves,

forgetting our comforts

and shedding our selfishness.

.

Jesus wants each of us to serve Him.

To serve Him means to follow the One who is the Way.

To do otherwise means that we can easily become self-centered

as we focus on the trifling concerns of this life

which can so easily lead us astray.

.

.

.

PRAYER…

.

Lord Jesus,

You are my glorious hope

and I pray that I will always trust in You

and put You first

whatever may come my way.

.

I want to serve You with an eager mind, O Lord;

with an undivided heart;

with my entire strength;

and I want to follow Your holy example.

.

Jesus, help me die willingly to myself,

that I may live forever in Your love.

.

Amen.

.

.

.

REPETITIVE PRAYER FOR TODAY…

.

Jesus, my glorious hope, I want to serve only You.

.

.

YEAR OF FAITH 2012-2013

FROM THE CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH…

.

In all of His life Jesus presents Himself as our model.

He is “the perfect man”,

who invites us to become His disciples and follow Him.

.

In humbling Himself, He has given us an example to imitate,

through His prayer He draws us to pray,

and by His poverty He calls us to accept freely

the privation and persecutions that may come our way.
